In the Indian month of Phalguna, the red blooms of silk-cotton, palash, and Indian coral trees welcome spring. Holi, the festival of love and color, is being celebrated throughout India. In Assam, it is called Doulutsav, and the most famous is the celebration at Barpeta Satra. As the west wind blows, the Barpeita people gather at the Satra in an unparalleled festive mood and sing Holi Geet, or Holi songs, with great enthusiasm. The songs speak of the beauty of nature and the love of Radha and Krishna. The tune of Holi Geet attracts me to the Satra every year.
