Colston Julian presents his thoughts on what makes Sony one of the most intuitive camera brands in the market today.
Athough I prefer not to compartmentalise my work, for the last 20 years that I've been shooting, a large part of it has involved fashion and environmental portraiture. With my background in cinematography, I try and bring in the same cinematic aesthetics in my visuals, while at the same time, ensuring that there's a narrative running through them. I find that fashion photography allows me to carry out my vision, which is why I enjoy the genre the most. Despite my fondness for the analogue process and my continued efforts working with film, a majority of my images are created with digital cameras. I chose Sony because of their dedication towards moving ahead with new and better technology, thereby making the craft easier, and enabling photographers to focus on their vision.
“Its 5-axis image stabilisation and low light performance is perhaps the best I've ever used.”
Over the last three years of my association with Sony, I can safely say that the brand stands for the right mix of technology and craft. I also appreciate how attentive they are of feedback on their products, and their continual effort in making the craft of photography more intuitive. "Sony Alpha 7R IV 61.0-megapixel full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS sensor combined with BIONZ X™ imaging engine delivers unprecedented resolution, fine gradation and low noise to open entirely new dimensions of detail just as pro photographers expect. It captures the mood of each scene andhas the ability to capture a subject in remarkable detail, delivering swift AF even in dim lighting”. For a lot of the assignments I work on, it demands working in a variety of environments with mixed lighting. The Sony Alpha 7R IV, along with the G Master lenses, makes the process much smoother.
A photographer and director, Colston is inspired by urban landscapes and lifestyles, where he looks for beauty within the chaos. He has worked with clients like Omega, L'Oreal, Adidas and Puma, among many others. He enjoys creating arresting portraits of interesting people. Virat Kohli, Amitabh Bachchan and Shane Warne are some of the celebrities he has worked with.
