This is an image from the Widow Holi, the festival of colours, from Vrindavan, the city of Lord Krishna in India. Widowhood in India is looked at from a very sad and sympathetic point of view. They are devoid of all the colours and all material joys of life. If you look closely, this woman is a metaphor for all the widows, whose lives are all black and white but the only colours soceity accepts on them are these colours of spirituality, of Lord Krishna and Holi. Holi is a glorious festival as it is, but it also brings some colours in the form of hope for these women. That is India in all its glory-when these women get to live in a vibrant world for a day.
