Image Description : It was almost Biblical - The Good Shepherd. Murtuza Baig tends to his flock as if they were his own children. Belonging to the Nomadic Gujjar community of Kashmir who travel miles everyday on foot navigating a treacherous terrain in search of food for their flock, Baig bumped into me while while he was passing through the notorious region of Pulwama during the peak almond blossom season. The landscape was immersed in a thick sheet of baby pink. His herd loves nibbling on the juicy pink petals of Almond blossoms every March that wither with a bout of rain and he wanted them to savour a rare feast. Two new born kids were tired from all that walking and so Baig decided to carry them on his back most of the journey. This photograph was taken during a private moment of exchange and intimacy between father and child - warmer than an Indian summer. His eyes shut as the kids kept pushing against his cheeks in an enormous embrace of love in a region tarnished by violence and bloodshed.
