During a night walk on the outskirts of Chennai after a light drizzle, I went out to look for frogs along a small stream. A few mayflies attracted to my torchlight settled on the rocks. This individual had completed its aquatic stage and was in its short adult phase, which lasts only a few hours, long enough to fly, mate and complete its life cycle. I used a backlight placed at a distance to illuminate the falling rain and turn it into soft bokeh around the mayfly, highlighting the brief and delicate nature of this moment.
