Light and ideally balanced telephoto 300 mm F2.8
The SEL300F28GM is the lightest large-aperture telephoto prime lens in its class1, delivering outstanding optical performance and rendering plus astonishingly fast, precise AF in a versatile lens that weighs just 1,470 grams (51.9 oz). (Excluding tripod mount) The lens has been designed so that its weight is not concentrated near the front, in order to give the best balance. This can minimise stress and fatigue during long handheld shooting sessions.

First Impression by Sony Artisan @sudhirshivaram on the newly launched SEL300F28GM
It is a 2.8 lens, and you can easily pick up any subject even in the lowest light. Since this is a G Master lens, the lens quality is obviously top of the line, right from the centre of the image to the edge of the frame. The other beauty of the lens is the way it is evenly balanced.
Sony FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS: A fantastic nocturnal lens | By Dhritiman Mukherjee
Sony Explorer and Wildlife Conservation Photographer Dhritiman Mukherjee explains why he loves the newly-launched FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS lens, "This lens is magic. I was shooting in Daintree National Park in Australia, where I was looking for nocturnal animals. It was a low-light situation and this lens, it worked so well, it focused well. It's light, it's fast and it works very well in the night. So, it's a fantastic nocturnal lens."
FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS | A game-changer for wildlife photography by Jayanth Sharma
Sony Artisan and Wildlife Photographer Jayanth Sharma feels that the newly launched FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS lens opens up a whole new world of possibilities. He says, "I think 300mm is probably the best focal length for my subjects. This lens grabs a lot of light and provides information to the camera to focus. The distinction it can give between the subject and the background, it was remarkable, and that's when I realised what an amazing lens this is."
Breathtaking G Master resolution
An innovative optical design that includes three Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and one ED glass element effectively subdues axial chromatic aberration as well as lateral chromatic aberration. Outstanding resolution and contrast are maintained right to the image edges, which also allows for more flexible cropping and editing.
Beautiful bokeh brings subjects to the fore
The gorgeous and creamy bokeh allows the use of narrow depth of field to make subjects stand out from the background. In addition to Super ED (extra-low dispersion) and ED elements in a new optical design that effectively suppresses colour bleeding, each lens is individually calibrated during manufacture to optimise bokeh quality. An 11-blade circular aperture mechanism contributes to smooth ball bokeh.
High-speed continuous shooting with fast, precise AF/AE
AF tracking speed and precision are maintained even when shooting continuous bursts at a small F22 aperture. The user can shoot continuously while panning to follow moving subjects, or stop down to achieve greater depth of field without having to worry about minimum aperture limitations.
Built-in Optical SteadyShot
Built-in optical image stabilisation makes it easier to shoot sharp images handheld at telephoto focal lengths. MODE 2 offers ideal stabilisation for panned shots, while MODE 32 provides enhanced stabilisation for dynamic, unpredictable sports action. Additionally, compatible bodies3 provide detailed body-lens communication and control that can effectively manage the blur.
Dust and moisture resistance4 plus high durability
A dust- and moisture-resistant design provides extra reliability. The use of a durable magnesium alloy for internal components and other refinements maximises durability while reducing weight. Additionally, the front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels fingerprints, dust and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants.
Flare and ghosting minimised for eye-opening clarity
Adding to the effectiveness of Sony's original Nano AR Coating II, reflections inside the lens barrel are carefully controlled to minimise flare and ghosting for crisp, clear images.
